What is a Supplemental Job Displacement Voucher?

If you have sustained a permanent injury, then you may have permanent work restrictions.   For example, if you sustained a back injury, your doctor might state that you have a permanent work restriction of “No lifting more than 25 pounds.”   If your employer can’t give you a job that accommodates your work restriction, then you may be entitled to a Supplemental Job Displacement Voucher.   The voucher is provided by the worker’s compensation insurance company.  It can be used to pay for an approved vocational school so that you can learn a new trade/job.   The voucher can be used to pay for tuition, books, and other educational expenses.  Our office helps fill out the voucher if the client is entitled to one without any additional fee.

How much is the Voucher worth?

For injuries that occur after 2013, the Supplemental Job Displacement Voucher is worth up to $6,000. If you had an injury that occurred before 2013, the amount of the voucher depends on how much permanent disability you have.

For injuries before 2013, the Voucher’s value is as follows:

  1. Max of $4,000 voucher for permanent partial disability of less than 15 percent
  2. Max of $6,000 voucher for permanent partial disability between 15 and 25 percent
  3. Max of $8,000 voucher for permanent partial disability between 26 and 49 percent
  4. Max of $10,000 voucher for permanent partial disability between 50 and 99 percent
